The Catholic Records of St Benedict, Stratton on the Fosse
A small band of monks and pupils moved to Downside from Acton Burnell, near Shrewsbury on 30th April 1814 and, from shortly after that time, baptisms, which appear in the records of St Benedicts were performed. A number of books record various aspects of the history of Downside, but up until now, none of the records of baptisms, marriages and burials of the members of the congregation of the Roman Catholic Church in Stratton on the Fosse have been published.

Branchlines has, through the kind permission of the parish priest, Dom Aidan Bellenger, been allowed to transcribe the records and to publish the very early records of the Roman Catholic congregation in Stratton on the Fosse. The first records to be put on this website will be of baptisms from 1818 until 1850 and this will be followed, at a later date, by early marriages and burials.

Dom Aidan Bellenger is intending to publish, later this year, in his South Western Catholic History Series, transcripts of the Catholic Parish Registers of Stratton on the Fosse from their commencement until 1914. This website will publish details from which the records can be purchased when they are available.
